Your device holds an advertising identifier — a random number the operating system assigns, with no name, email address or contact details attached to it. It is what lets advertising be measured and matched to people likely to be interested.
There is no advertising inside Void Hunters. Whatever you decide here, you will not see ads in the game — this setting has no bearing on that.
What it is actually used for
Two things, both of which happen outside the game:
- Working out which of our campaigns reached you. When someone installs the game, the identifier is how we can tell which advertisement or channel they came from.
- Making the ads for the game relevant. Ads we buy on other apps and sites are shown to people whose interests suggest they would enjoy this kind of game, rather than to everybody.
You can read what we collect and who we share it with in our Privacy Policy.
What changes if you turn it off
Nothing in the game. Nothing is locked, slowed, withheld or made more expensive, and no feature is held back. What changes is outside the game: ads you see in other apps become less relevant, and we lose the ability to tell which of our campaigns you came from.
Why we would rather you left it on
Void Hunters is free to download and free to play, and it is paid for by the players who choose to buy something. Finding those players is the expensive part. When the identifier is available, we can show our advertising to people who would actually enjoy a game like this, and we can see which channels work — so the same budget reaches the right people instead of being spread across everyone. Money not wasted on advertising to the wrong audience is money that goes into the game.
That is the whole of our side of it. The choice is yours, it has no effect on your account or on the game, and you can change it whenever you like — in either direction.
Turning it off, or back on
- iOS: Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. Turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track refuses tracking for every app at once, including ours.
- Android: Settings › Google › All services › Ads, where you can delete the advertising ID or turn off personalisation. The path varies by manufacturer.
- Windows: the advertising ID sits under the privacy settings for apps.
Either direction takes effect gradually rather than instantly — identifiers already in circulation take time to fall out of use.
